Rick Polachek

Welcome to SoJourner Christian Counseling, LLC. SoJourner was founded on the idea that all men and women are on a journey in life, in a state of perpetual and purposeful movement from cradle to grave. Whether the movement is healthy or unhealthy is dependent on the direction we choose to go. Sometimes the journey can be long and arduous. No one escapes taking the journey. We do, however, choose how we will travel.

SoJourner is dedicated to offering hope and healing to those who have grown weary and disheartened along the way – sometimes damaged by the wrongdoing of others. In such a state, we can unwittingly make choices that undermine our authenticity and deplete the joy we were made to experience. Thus, we may live a life plagued by distorted identity, compulsive behavior, anxiety, depression, and anger.

The Truth came to set us free from these tyrannical impulses – by discovering who God is and subsequently, who we are. Rick Polachek, who has established SoJourner, has counseled for over 20 years, coming alongside those in need of hope, rest, and renewed vision. He works with individuals, couples, and groups helping people reclaim the potential they were created for and the life they have longed to live.

Biography

Rick Polachek, M.A., LPC
Counselor

Serving in and out of combat as an officer of the United States Air Force has allowed me the opportunity and privilege to work alongside and help many men and women through a vast array of personal and relational issues in a context of stressful and even traumatic situations. Living in such an environment and seeing many people not getting the emotional, spiritual and mental help they needed motivated me to seek a different life direction. Compassion for those that were hurt and in need led me down a path toward counseling and shepherding. Wanting to address people’s issues in a way that restored dignity and went beyond simply resolving behavioral maladies drew me to study crucial core issues that underscore problematic behavioral patterns.

I understand counseling to be a partnership between client and counselor working together under the grace of God, for a twofold purpose of resolving issues that brought the client into counseling and looking at the possibility of a deeper intimacy with the Father.

I hold a Masters of Arts in Biblical Counseling from Colorado Christian University under the direction of clinical psychologists Dr. Larry Crabb and Dr. Dan Allender. I have led numerous groups, both didactic and therapeutic in nature, and have served as the personal and family coach with L.E.A.D. Ministries for the Center for Christian Leadership at Dallas Theological Seminary. Having counseled individuals, married couples and various groups for over 20 years has given me experience working with those that struggle with:

  • sexual abuse
  • depression
  • gender and identity issues
  • addictive patterns
  • marital conflict
  • complexities in adolescence
  • anxiety
  • anger

When I’m not working I draw some of the greatest satisfaction from being in the mountains; whether traversing a trail or simply resting next to a meandering meadow brook. Enjoying this with my wife Sue and our four children awakens in me a vision of heaven few things come closer to.
